NEW HAMPSHIRE - The U.S. Energy Information Administration projects the average cost for heating oil will be approximately 10 percent higher this winter (10/1/2011 - 3/31/2012) compared with the same time period last winter.
Heating oil prices for the state are predicted to average $3.72/gallon over the course of the 2011-2012 heating season, although fuel oil purchased during the months of November, December and January will likely remain above that price point.
Although "average cost" to heat with oil this winter are predicted to be higher than in any previous winter. Prices are only expected to average approximately $0.33 more per gallon over the previous winter, (which is still considerably lower than the summer of 2008 when record high prices in the $5.00/gallon range were charged for heating oil.
